Karin Augusta Nogva for the Bjørnson Festival 2024
Karin Augusta Nogva as festival artist for the Bjørnson festival 2024.
The Bjørnson Festival, in collaboration with the Møre og Romsdal Art Center, are proud to
present Karin Augusta Nogva as the 2024 festival artist.
Karin Augusta Nogva lives and works in Ålesund, where she is also one of the artists
behind the Aggregat Kunstnerfelleskap og Mottaket. She received a Master in Fine Arts
degree from the Bergen National Academy for the Arts, and BA in Printmaking from the
Edinburgh College of Art and Bergen Art Academy.
Inspired by culture and traditions of Japan, where she has traveled several times since
2012, her practice combines traditional paper stencil techniques, printmaking,
performance, storytelling and design.
For the exhibition at the Møre og Romsdal Art Center, Karin will present the project
“Fuglekabinett”, which emerged from the “Fuglevoktaren” project. "Fuglevoktaren," a
performative human-bird character who serves as the voice for birds amidst the
encroachment on untouched nature, is a project that has been on-going for the past four
years.
This work, developed in response to the opposition against the construction of wind power
plants on Haramsøya in 2020-2021, intertwines art and activism. Using art, it attempts to
highlight and address situations where local communities are overlooked in political
processes.
The exhibition opens on Wednesday 4 September at 19:00 in Møre og Romsdal Art Centre, Plassen, Molde.
The artist will also take part in the opening of the Bjørnson Festival 2024 on Wednesday
4 September at 15:00 on the outdoor stage at the Plassen cultural center in Molde.
Questions regarding the exhibition can be directed to the artistic director at
