The passing of Ine Harrang was received with great sorrow by all of us. She fought a hard battle against cancer and was only 64 years old.

Ine Harrang (b. 1960) was an important and prominent figure in the art scene of Møre og Romsdal. An active and respected artist, she held numerous exhibitions and public art commissions. She played key roles in various organizations, worked as an experienced art consultant for public art, and passionately shared the magic of art with students and the public. Her passing is a great loss to the artistic community and the field.

She began her career as an actress and theater critic, studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London from 1986 to 1989. A few years later, she decided to change direction and enrolled in the glass department at Edinburgh College of Art, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. She continued her studies with a master’s degree at the Academy of Art, Architecture, and Design in Prague, which she completed in 2010, specializing in concept-based work and glass. Throughout her career, she held numerous solo exhibitions at institutions such as Østfold Art Center, Bærum Kunsthall, Kabuso, Nidaros Cathedral, and Møre og Romsdal Art Center, among many others.

With her extensive experience and dedication, she was an invaluable resource for various organizations. Ine generously shared her knowledge in board work and helped other artists in governance roles, strengthen their expertise in cultural policy. From 2011 to 2019, she served as chair of Møre og Romsdal Art Center. She also worked as acting director during periods in 2019–2020 when the art center was lacking leadership. Additionally, she was a board member of the Museums of Sunnmøre (ViTI), regional chair of the Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts Mid-Norway, and leader of the Visual Artists in Møre og Romsdal (BKMR).

As an art consultant, she was a key contributor to numerous public art projects. She received many grants, including the Møre og Romsdal County Municipality Artist Grant in 2012, 2014, and 2018. In 2017, she was awarded the prestigious State 10-Year Working Grant for Artists. In 2020, Kunstmuseet KUBE acquired her work Time Experienced, making her part of their permanent collection.

When we remember Ine, we think of her deep knowledge and expertise, generosity, and genuine passion for art and culture. She was full of life, always in good spirits, and cared deeply for her colleagues and loved ones. We will miss her dearly.

With the utmost honor, sorrow, and respect for Ine and her artistic legacy, Møre og Romsdal Art Center will present the exhibition Skogen from January 11 to February 15, 2025. She worked on this exhibition until the very end, and we extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed and supported her.

Our thoughts go out to her daughter, friends, and family.
