Kristine Sandøy
Det er der inne (It is there inside or It is in there)

The Molde International Jazz Festival and the Møre and Romsdal Art Center are proud to present Kristine Sandøy as this year’s festival artist. With an exhibition titled: “Det er der inne” (It is there inside or It is in there), it will present a continuation of Kristine Sandøy’s artistic practice which has gravity as its fundamental force and presence. She explores the properties of materials in interaction with the environment and the human body. Her mobile sculptures pose questions about mobility and energy. The works for the exhibition have primarily been made in steel, with elements of readymades and other materials.

Sandøy describes her works as follows:
“I am interested in the interaction between the audience and the artwork, and I seek to create tension between these two parties. I place great emphasis on the creation of a sculpture itself to give it personality through my formal vocabulary. It is form and energy, and the forces in humans, the universe, and materials that occupy me now. I question whether energy from the heart can move parts of the sculptures.”

Kristine Roald Sandøy (b. 1982, Vigra) is a sculptor with a master’s degree from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, with a focus on metal. Sandøy has numerous public art commissions, including the “Fire” sculpture for Løten Municipality (2020). She has participated in numerous exhibitions throughout Norway, and in addition to her sculptures, she has also worked on set design in several projects, including with Verdensteatret. She won the Anders Jahres Cultural Award for Young Artists in 2011.

The Molde International Jazz Festival is the oldest continuously running jazz festival in the world (as of 2020), as well as the most important one in Norway. It was founded in 1961. The festival is organized every July on the 29th week.
