[krig ]( meaning war) is the artistic meeting between Karin Bäckström and Jon Perman. They gave themselves the name, inspired by the traditions of punk, and with an idea to fight for the freedom of the soul, creativity and DIY ethics.
Together they release records, create installations, run a self-organized gallery/culture center Backbeatbolaget/Galleri Lars Palm in Sandviken, and organize artistic projects including Art Promotion Gävleborg. Their artistic practice revolves around emotions, craftsmanship and textiles in relation to making, social order and creating new spaces. Underlying is an interest in collectivity and creativity.
Through their projects, they want to give space to other images of places and create new realities. Under the name [krig, they produce both audio-textile “scenes/works”, performances and music as well as artistic creations and projects. Through their performances, they try to create textiles that arise and dissolve, a kind of performative textile. The textile works are made from materials found at local flea markets. The sounds of the music are collected through field recordings and samples of old local records. They contain storytelling and an anchoring to places and people through materials and associative chains of events. The scenes are layered on top of each other and eventually become something other than what they once were. The textile and the music become a material for social constructions where events and situations can also be developed into co-created projects.
We create audio-textile installations and performances based on exploratory work where knowledge and techniques are found in places, landscapes and people. Our textile is created from materials found in the local, such as flea markets and se-cond-hand stores. The sounds in music are collected through field recordings and samples of old local records. It creates a moment of storytelling and a connection to local places and people through the artwork. We also work with the connection between music and textile. Searching for connections in the moment through performance, and are investigating simple textile constructions, techniques you are able to perform with your body. We also create artistic strategies in which invite to dialogue and participation where the work is co-created through the building of relationships, were events can leave a mark in the public space or conversation. Something that is created collectivly by people who live in, as well as visitors to a place. It can be seen as a web of human encounters, stories and events, which leave traces for long or short time. Through creative actions, we can create our own elements in the fabric of society and thus reshape and contribute to a larger story.
The event is made possible through support from KORO/LOK
MRK is supported by Møre and Romsdal county municipality and Molde municipality.
